Rich black is created by blending all of the CMYK colours, resulting in a more rich and saturated tone. Make sure not to over-saturate the paper by setting all colours to the 100 maximum. For best results, try some of the values shown in the chart below.

Rich black
Rich black, in printing, is an ink mixture of solid black over one or more of the other CMYK colors, resulting in a darker tone than black ink alone generates in a printing process. A typical rich black mixture might be 100% black, 50% of each of the other three inks.

Rich black uses CMYK values of: C = 60, M = 60, Y = 60, K = 100. Some print houses adjust change their 60 to another value, usually between 40 and 70. But if black is a result of all colours being absorbed, why wouldn’t you just set all values in the CMYK

· CMYK documents, however, provide the right black value: 100K. Anyway, I think there should be a mechanism making sure that black text always stays/gets 100K black when converted into a CMYK PDF. You shouldn’t be forced to check before printing, whether it is rich black or 100K.
